This morning I got up a little before 4 o'clock but not because I wanted to. Some mornings I do get up around 04:30, others I get up around 05:00. Four days a week I try to get a workout in and the other 3, I work on personal business projects.
This morning I woke up to a hungry son that need a bottle. After he went back to bed I decided to do some work or 'hustle' if you will. I don't typically 'hustle' very much. I like to start my mornings at 5 and get as much work done as I can until about 06:30 or 07:00. This typically ends up making me late for work because once I get started it is hard to find a good stopping point. Also, it normally takes me about 15-30 minutes to really get the ball rolling so I don't want to waste my motivation.
I frequently get distracted and a lot of times I wake up and I don't want to do anything even though I know I need to. I sometimes end up on Facebook, cleaning email, or whatever doesn't actually move the needle in my personal business. It is really frustrating to say the least. Doing things that don't matter is really my mantra that early in the morning.
This morning was different I decided that I needed to focus regardless of the fact that I didn't want to do anything productive at all. Thursday mornings are typically when I get ready to launch the weeks episode of my podcast - Technically Living. Previously in the week I would have already completed everything I needed to do for that weeks episode. This week was a little different. Life happened yet again and it took me a little while to get around to actually recording an episode.
"I've never felt better and more jacked up."
So that's what I accomplished this morning. I recorded, edited, prepared and posted this weeks episode all in about half the time it would normally have taken me. I've never felt better and more jacked up about getting my day started. It is amazing what it takes to get started sometimes but once you are started the amount of momentum that you have moving forward and being productive is even more amazing.
I challenge you to finally get up and start that task because as soon as you start you won't want to stop. Getting started is the hardest thing but once you are started; staying going is easy. It's the distractions in life's duties and tasks that come up that make it hard to continue. Take any opportunity (even if it is getting woken up an hour or two early) to do a task that you have been holding off or procrastinating on. Just do it NOW and get it done with because as soon as you start you become happier knowing what you are going to finish.
If you are interested in the podcast I recorded this morning, it will be release tomorrow November 18th, 2016 at 0400 CST. You can find Episode 12 about Administrator Accounts here: https://technicallylivingpodcast.com
Do you get up early to try an accomplish tasks? What are the tasks you work on? What are some of the hang ups that cause you to procrastinate? Please post in the comments. I would love to hear about your struggles and wins.
